The Daily
I bought Wilhelmina in spring of 2016 as my everyday bike.
Primarily used for commuting, she's also been used for touring and camping, long road rides, and the occasional foray into the dirt and gravel.
It marks my first "modern" bike. And by modern, I mean, STI shifters, disc brakes, and a non square taper crankset. STI shifters were an excellent upgrade compared to old downtube shifters. The disc brakes have been nice. I trust them more. But I also feel like I fiddle with adjusting them more than I did with rim brakes.
After a year of owning Wilhelmina, I tacoed the front wheel in a crash, then later that same year, replaced the rear wheel after it broke its fourth spoke.
At the end of 2017, I bought a nice wheelset and upgraded to dynamo lights.
The first dynamo hub barely lasted 2 years. It didn't like wet weather.
I had it replaced with a SON hub in 2019. For those who know, yes, it did hurt to pay that much for a hub, but it was so worth it. If only I had ordered this one first.
Handlebar bags have led to an adventure in shifters. I rode with no modifications for awhile, but it would push on the shift cables and cause my rear derailleur to jump around.
I attempted to fix it with the V-Brake Noodle Trick. It worked ok.
In 2023, I replaced my rear shifter for the newer generation which routes the shift cable under the bar tape. This worked wonderfully, but 3 days later, I was hit by a skateboarder and it broke. It worked so well though that I replaced the lever again as soon as possible.
